Amber looked around the den and shook her head in amazement. It was decorated for Halloween, or rather Bernd’s idea of it, after spending days researching on Pinterest. There was bat garland and star garland, gold streamers, perfectly round orange balloons and pretty clear ones with gold filigree. He had made a comfy “nest” of pillows and blankets so they could sit back and watch a Halloween movie, or rather Bernd’s idea of a Halloween movie. Bernd had also scattered a few jack-o-lanterns and gourds that added to holiday atmosphere.
“You like it?” Bernd grinned.
Amber nodded. “It’s very pretty; I feel like I stepped into my Pinterest board.” Definitely the one I call my “classy upper-middle class suburban housewife Halloween ideas,” which is probably the only one you were brave enough to look at… She smiled as he always tried his hardest to get it right when it came to things she loved.
“That’s cuz I took a peek at it.”
More like studied it like your life depended on it… “I can tell.” At the look on his face, she added, “But that’s not a bad thing. You managed to take my favorite parts and combined them in a way I never would.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” She kissed his cheek. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.” He grinned. “Let me go make some popcorn and then we can watch the movie.”
“Okay.” Amber walked over to the nest of blankets and pillows, and made herself comfortable. It did not take long for Bernd to join her with a big bowl of popcorn and the remote for the DVD player. “You forgot the drinks.”
“Oh, crap!” Bernd swore as he got up. “Wait here; I’ll be right back!” He dashed off to the kitchen.
“Okay!” Amber called out to his retreating form.
Bernd hurried back with the soda. He sat down and handed a can to Amber, before settling back to enjoy the movie. He reached for the remote and hit “play.” Amber munched on a handful of popcorn as she leaned against him. Bernd put his arm around her as they watched the movie.
