“Vati!”
Wolfgang was in the kitchen when he heard the bellowing of the elder twin. He really wished that this particular habit of his son's wouldn't have caught on.
He sighed, “I'm in here!”
Amber walked in looking most determined carrying a piece of paper and a crayon. “So, Vati, you're a man of the world.”
It always scared him when she started like this.
“Explain to me how this Santa thing works. My understanding is that you give the fat man a list of demands and bribe him with cookies, then he brings you presents.” She looked up at him with questioning eyes.
Sometimes he forgot that Santa was not a part of Christmas at her house. Wolfgang invited her to sit at the dining table. “Something like that. Is there something in particular you want?” He'd grown rather attached to the third grader over the years, but she could be difficult to shop for. Any insight would be helpful.
“Remember the movie we watched the other night?”
Gremlins was the feature of their latest movie night. All Wolfgang really remembered was being concerned his eldest, Bernd, was hiding under a pillow through most of the movie. “Ja?”
“I want one,” she said it with such wide-eyed conviction, he was a little scared.
“Oh... Did you want one when they were still fluffy or... later?”
“Yes.”
Why couldn't she just want a pony like a normal little girl?
