Summary: Bernd, Amber, and the gang enjoy the bonfire, while hanging out at the county fair, until it’s time to go home…

It was the last night of the county fair and the locals made a huge bonfire to mark the end of the season. People sat on long benches, watching the flames climb higher in the sky, while music still came over the loud speakers. Bernd and Amber huddled together under a blanket, while James sat on the ground at their feet. Bernd’s brother Didi sat on the next log over, his friend Tino on his lap. Tino’s brother Cesare and his best friend Julio went in search of whatever food they could get. They returned empty handed, Cesare grumbling as he sat on the ground next to James.
All around them the fairgrounds began to grow dark as things were shut down and put away. The sound of livestock, cars being driven away, booths and rides being broken down, and the soft hum of conversation echoed around them. The crackling of the fire provided a counter melody to all the noise. It was a fun day and next Friday was Halloween and they all eagerly talked about dressing up and going trick or treating.
Amber went over the list of movies she wanted to watch with Bernd. It was a give or take, with her giving him two non-scary movies for every scary one. They would be starting tomorrow with The Shining and finishing up with Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein on Halloween in time to go out trick or treating. While Bernd was dreading the scary movies, he loved watching movies in general with her.
As the flames died down, people left the fairgrounds. At eleven, Wolfgang showed up to take everyone home. They all piled into his pickup truck, Didi and Tino, joining Wolfgang up front in the cab. Since Amber was staying over, she was still in the back with Bernd, after everyone was dropped off at home, as his father drove home. The teens sat there, holding hands and watching the stars in the night sky.
